Menci - ZMAP Laser

Z-Map Laser is a software specifically projected for CAD drawing and orthophoto production on point clouds.
Moreover Z-Map Laser allows several advanced specific functions such as to editing surfaces, building othophoto mosaics handling and merging 3d models, orienting and drawing on images.

ZML integrates a solid proprietary CAD environment.
In ZML’s CAD there are all features needed for an advanced plotting and raster editing: entities, styles, layers, thickness, hatches, images, mosaics, printing pages, grips and object snaps, codes, templates, drag&drop display order, etc.
The available functions include all CAD editing standard commands (copy, move, scale, offset, ...) plus other specific ones.
Point clouds are perfectly integrated into CAD and processed like a common CAD entity.
A 3d Orbit interface allows the user to easily handle 3d entities and point cloud into CAD.

A high level of drawing performance is garanted even in presence of point clouds affected by noise and gaps.
This is possible thanks to the UCS (User Coordinate System) special managment that makes possible to draw on point clouds and on oriented images at the same time.
All results can be exported to Autocad DWG/DXF and every images and point clouds can be converted to most common file formats.

Drawing Modes
2d Drawing. In 2d drawing all entities lie on the same plane.
It’s possible to draw directly 2d entities or to project 3d or 2.5d entities on a plane.

2.5d Drawing. It is a 2d drawing where the vertices of each entity get their own elevation through a DEM (Digital Elevation Model).
All entities lie on the same plane where all the elevation infos are reported.
3d Drawing.
3d entities can be drawn simply activating an object snap on the point cloud and by clicking on 3d polyline vertices.

3d UCS Drawing.
It’s an easy and efficient method that allows to interpolate a plane over the point cloud and to use it to draw planar (but 3d) entities.
When an UCS plane is fitted and showed as semi-transparent surface on point cloud then the elevation gap value between current 3d mouse position and fitted plane is visualized in real-time.
An user-friendly UCS translation make faster drawing on different plane.

Vector drawing on warped images
Can be easier and sometimes even necessary to draw on images instead of on point cloud.
With ZML is possible to do this.
Images should be oriented selecting homologous points on the image and on 3d model (this operation isn’t requested for laser scanner that integrates a digital camera).

Once selected the reference UCS there’s no difference between drawing on point cloud and on image.

Images will be automatically warped on UCS at the arranged elevation and the user will proceed as if working on a 3d UCS drawing.
This procedure makes possible to draw all particulars that are hardly visible on point cloud (e.g small details or complex architecture).
The use of pictures assures an efficient and high quality drawing realization.

Orthophoto and Mosaicing
The projection of oriented images on a selected UCS can be run through a pixel by pixel warping operation or through True Orthophoto process.

The cutting operation can be realized by the means of two algorithms : LPV and PPD.
Especially the second one represents the best way to find cutting lines through a dynamic process.

DEM
DEM (Digital Elevation Model) is a raster representation of surface elevations, based on a reference UCS.
Some different representations are available: blue-red range images, geographic and custom.

Information contained in DEMs are used in ZML to project orthophotos, plot on images, collimate control points, compare surfaces and so on.
ZML allows to generate a DEM from a set of entities, from 3d models and from images.

After generation some tools allow to edit DEM like a generic raster: copy&paste, flood fill, cut, clone, etc. grant an easy cleaning and refinement of DEMs.

Point Cloud editing and management
It’s possible to edit, merge and analyze 3d model generated by laser scanners or ZScan.
Each cloud can be cleaned from noise, triangulated, georeferred and converted to standard file formats.
Moreover it’s possible to geometrically and chromatically compare the surfaces of two different models.
